Spring is ending on May 31, and the preliminary climate maps show that for most of the Southeast, the season was cooler and drier than normal, although of course there are variations across the region. Alabama was wetter than normal across the state, but most of the rest of the Southeast had dry conditions, which have led to the expansion of drought across eastern North Carolina and parts of South Carolina as well as southern Florida. Fortunately, the high pressure that has dominated the region over the last few weeks appears to be breaking down, and that should lead to more rain and seasonal temperatures going into June as cloud cover increases.
