People have been asking me if this is a record-setting winter for temperature. Using the Southeast Regional Climate Center’s Perspectives tool at https://www.sercc.com/perspectives?user=true, you can look at maps which show the rankings for the month or season to date. With just a couple of days left to go in the season, the maps show that while most locations will not set a record for the warmest winter, many stations are in the top five warmest. For precipitation, the driest stations are in northern areas, while there is a very wet streak from southern Alabama into central and southern Georgia. These wet conditions have substantially reduced the drought in those locations but not helped much with the continuing dry conditions to the north of the wettest areas.
