The latest monthly climate summary for the US was released by NOAA today. It shows that for the lower 48 states, this was the wettest December through February period on record (going back to 1895). Most of the country was wetter than normal, with only a small part of the 48 states drier than normal. In spite of some very cold air moving into the US, most of the eastern US was above normal for the winter as a whole, dominated by a February that was much warmer than normal after a cooler January.
Rainfall in February was also wetter than normal across the country as a whole, but was split in the Southeast between extremely wet conditions in northern parts of the region and much drier than normal conditions in most of the southern sections.
