Earlier this week we were watching an area of disturbed weather called Invest 91L in the Atlantic Ocean moving westward towards us. However, a combination of Saharan dust and wind shear have effectively destroyed the cluster of storms before they could develop tropical characteristics and it is no longer expected to become a tropical storm. Nothing else is on the horizon for the next week or more in spite of the fact that the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane season is September 10. However, more waves are crossing Africa now so future development is likely. The Climate Prediction Center is especially highlighting the week of September 17-23 for development in the central Atlantic, so that will be something to watch in the next couple of weeks.
