With just a couple of days to go until the end of the month, I thought I would show the maps for the month to date (through the 29th). The temperature map shows that the entire region was above normal in temperature, which is probably no surprise to anyone in the area. The precip map I am showing this time is the percent of normal rainfall that has been measured, which really shows the variation in rainfall across the region. What is especially notable to me is the almost complete lack of rain in the Florida peninsula, which is contributing to the growth of abnormally dry conditions there. I am also looking at rainfall of less than 50 percent of normal in parts of North Carolina and Virginia, which could mean the expansion of dry conditions there in the future.
