As I sit here in Athens today, we are experiencing another day well above 70 F. Yesterday, we set a new record of 79 F, just one degree off the all-time airport record of 80 F for January. For most of the Southeast, January so far has been well above normal in temperature and the rest of the month shows that this is likely to continue until near the end of the month, when the next cold spell may start. Precipitation has varied across the region, with the wettest amounts to found in southern Alabama and northeastward from there through central Georgia and South Carolina. Coastal SC and parts of east Georgia along with a good chunk of southern Florida are below normal as well as northern Alabama. The rain this week should be fairly close to normal except for southern Florida, which is expecting a continuation of dry conditions.
