This morning’s Drought Monitor shows a significant improvement in drought conditions in Alabama and northern Georgia as recent rains have brought relief to many areas. All of the D4 exceptional drought is now gone, and areas of extreme, severe and moderate drought have all been reduced. Drought conditions in southern Georgia and in Florida have not changed. While drought is improving, there are still many impacts of drought to be seen around the area, including low pond and lake levels and low stream flows in many rivers. Drought often improves over winter as temperatures are cool enough that evaporation is not a factor and plants are dormant, with reduced water needs.
