The temperature across the Southeast in April was warmer than normal overall, with the majority of the region experiencing temperatures that were 2-4 degrees above average. Precipitation across the region was highly variable. The driest part of the region was the southwest portion of the Florida Peninsula, which experienced only about 0.1 inches of rain for the whole month, less than 5 percent of their normal rainfall. The rest of Florida was also very dry and those conditions extended north into southern GA and the coastal plain of SC. North Carolina and Virginia were also very dry and drought expanded there as well as in Florida and southeastern Georgia. The wettest parts of the region in April were northern Alabama and Georgia and western South Carolina. Coastal Virginia was also wetter than normal.
