Four years ago today, post-hurricane Sandy made landfall on the New Jersey coast.  Sandy started out as a classical late-season hurricane starting in the southwestern Caribbean Sea and crossed the eastern end of Cuba before taking a path east of the Bahamas which paralleled the East Coast of the US before taking an unusual but well-forecast (at least by some models) left hook into New Jersey.  It transitioned from a hurricane to a post-tropical storm shortly before it made landfall, which affected the clarity of warnings around New York and New Jersey and caused a lot of confusion there with both the general public and emergency managers).  An estimated 147 people died from Sandy and it was a huge weather disaster for the Northeast US.  But Sandy also brought heavy rain and snow to more inland areas as the warm tropical air met cold Arctic air farther inland.
