Do you feel like the rain showers that are passing through the area are always missing you? One of the problems with summertime thunderstorms is that they are highly variable in space and time, hitting some areas repeatedly while missing others altogether. Over the long haul, the rainfall should distribute itself out, but on the short-term, it is very frustrating to be constantly missed by the storms while your neighbors get too much.
I was reminded of this tonight on my way home from work when I stopped to take this picture of a rain shaft to my north. It was nice and clear where I stopped, but the rain was falling hard just a mile away. My wipers could barely keep up! Remember that if you get in this situation, flash flooding can occur quickly. Be careful driving and don’t cross flooded roads, because they might be undermined. As the Weather Service says, Turn around, don’t drown!
