The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that drought has expanded in every state of the Southeast this week. The cutoff date for data was Tuesday, so this did not include any effect of the rain we have been experiencing today. The only places that saw improvements were southern Florida and Puerto Rico. Due to the rain this week we may see some reduction in drought on next week’s map, but a bigger factor may be any rain that falls if expected TS Imelda makes landfall somewhere along the East Coast early next week before the data cutoff.
