The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that most of the drought that has plagued the Southeast has been reduced or eliminated after the last couple of weeks of rain. This week’s change is particularly noticeable in Virginia and eastern North Carolina, which received the most rain this week. By contrast, southern Florida continues in extreme drought, with the drought slowly getting worse in some places while others saw slight improvement. It is still better there than it was in early May, however. Most of the region should receive an inch or more of rain in the coming week, which could lead to further improvements. The driest area will be the Gulf Coast of Florida.
