The latest Drought Monitor map, released last Thursday, shows that a lot of the region improved its drought status in this past week due to a strong system that brought rain to northern Alabama, northwest Georgia, eastern Tennessee, and parts of the Carolinas. The only small areas where drought got worse were along the southeast coast of North Carolina and the west coast of Florida near Tampa. There are currently no dry conditions in Puerto Rico. Abnormally dry conditions continue to cover southeastern Georgia, much of South Carolina, and central North Carolina. Since rainfall this week will be relatively light, I do not expect much to change on next week’s map.
