This week’s Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows widespread improvements in drought across the region with just a few small areas that were missed by rain and got deeper into drought. The Drought Monitor’s Change Map make it easy to see where the changes are. This does not even include the rain that fell since Tuesday when this week’s map data were cut off. And with more rain in the forecast we can expect to see more improvements in next week’s map, too. With summertime spotty rain showers, there may be small areas within the changes that got missed by rain and are worse than what the map shows, but with limited data it is almost impossible to catch all of those. Having your own rain gauge can help to document where the rain failed to materialize for insurance purposes.
