The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that the drought across the Southeast has been improved this week due to the recent rain that has occurred over most of the region. The exceptional (D4) drought has been removed from the whole region and each state has seen some reduction in the area of the worst drought. In Puerto Rico the drought has decreased but areas of abnormally dry conditions (D0) expanded a bit. With the heavy rain that is expected over the weekend it is likely that there will be further improvements in Southeastern drought in next week’s map.
