A mostly dry week coupled with above-normal temperatures has led to the expansion of drought in many parts of the region, according to the latest Drought Monitor that was released today. The largest increase was in Alabama, where most of the state is now covered by some level of drought, but most other stations also saw smaller increases. There was no change in drought status in Virginia or Puerto Rico. The next week should also be quite dry although cooler with the passage of a cold front on Friday, so we may see a continuation of this trend on next week’s map.
