A good amount of rain fell in the Carolinas and Virginia this past week. This resulted in a significant decrease in dry conditions, including a big decrease in severe (D2) drought. Most of the abnormally dry (D0) conditions were removed from Georgia. Very small increases in moderate (D1) drought were seen in Alabama and a tiny area of D1 was also introduced to the far western Panhandle of Florida. There was no change in Puerto Rico’s drought this week. Florida will be the driest part of the Southeast in the next 7 days, so there could be some increase in D0 there on next week’s map, but elsewhere I don’t expect to see a lot of changes.
