The preliminary climate summary maps for the Southeast show that generally inland and northern parts of the region were cooler than normal and southern and coastal areas were above normal in temperature for August 2017. Rainfall was above normal in Alabama, northern Georgia and the eastern Carolinas and Virginia as well as the west coast of the Florida peninsula. The driest area was central South Carolina.
