Georgia’s recent drought is one of the worst in recent memory and compares to the 2007-2009 drought that was very bad across the state, especially the northern parts. But there have been other severe droughts as well, such as the 1954 drought. One of the worst on record for Georgia was the 1925-1927 drought, but there were far fewer stream and rain gauges then so it is difficult to compare. So I was interested to read this analysis looking back at the 1925-1927 drought from the eyes of the North Carolina State Climate Office’s Corey Davis. It describes the development of the drought, how bad it was, and the impacts of the severely dry conditions.
