The latest Drought Monitor, released today, indicates that dry conditions expanded over a lot of the Florida Peninsula as well as in some locations in South Carolina due to a lack of rain this week. By comparison, a large area in Alabama and smaller areas in northern Georgia and central Tennessee improved due to the rain from the recent frontal passage there. Rainfall in the next week is expected to be light in most of the region except the higher elevations, northwest Alabama, and northern Virginia, so no improvements are expected on next week’s map. Parts of the region may not see any rain at all.
