The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that dry conditions and drought have significantly expanded in North Carolina, northern South Carolina, southern Virginia, and eastern Tennessee this past week due to very low rainfall. A few scattered areas in other parts of the region also saw small increases in dry conditions, especially in Florida. Next week is expected to be much colder than normal and it will be dry the first part of the week as the front sags to our south, but by midweek the front will return to the north, bringing a lot more rain and warmer conditions to the region. Some areas of Alabama and Georgia could get more than 3 inches from the storm, with lower amounts in other states. The Florida peninsula will be largely missed by the rain and drought could expand there again next week.
