As you know, the past few weeks have been exceptionally dry for the Southeast, even in October, which is generally the driest month of the year. A number of stations have not received one drop of rain this month, and that is expected to continue for the next week except for an area in South and North Carolina and the east coast of Florida that could see some light rain in the next few days. Otherwise, it is expected to be completely dry again for the next week. The longer-range models suggest that this will continue through the first week of November before we start to see a breakdown in this pattern. There is now a 20% chance of tropical development in the western Caribbean in the next week, but most of the potential tracks show it moving to the east of Florida, so that would not provide much relief.
