A recent study by scientists at the University of Waterloo indicate that in the future, strawberries could become more rare and more expensive as the warmer climate makes it harder to produce strawberries to meet consumer demands. This is especially true of strawberries produced in California, where limited water supplies along with the warmer temperatures may reduce yields. There are ways to protect plants using shade structures and drip irrigation, but they come at a cost.
