NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center issued their updated May 2024 outlook for temperature and precipitation today. It shows that as earlier predicted, the entire region is expected to be warmer than normal. The precipitation outlook has shifted from the mid-month prediction and is now showing the potential for the development of drought in the central Florida Peninsula. This is not a surprise considering how dry it has been there and because the forecast indicates drier than normal conditions will continue. The precipitation map is showing the likelihood of wetter than normal conditions across northern parts of the region, which could alleviate some of the dry conditions that have been developing in eastern North Carolina and surrounding areas.
