Although we don’t have the final numbers in yet, March 2024 looks like it was wetter and warmer than normal across nearly all of the region. Overnight low temperatures were more above average than the daily maximum temperatures, a trend we are seeing in most months and seasons across the Southeast (and many other parts of the United States). The result of all that warmth and moisture is an early bloom and green-up of trees and shrubs across the region. Fortunately, we have escaped a really damaging freeze for most of the region this year, although we did have some subfreezing temperatures in mid-March. The long-range forecasts through mid-April show that temperatures in the region should stay above freezing for most of the area except in the mountains, so I think we may have dodged a bullet this year.
