We have about a week to go in the month, so let’s take a quick look at what has happened so far. Nearly all of the region was colder than normal, with the biggest departures in Alabama and Tennessee. Southern Florida was the main part of the region that experienced well-above-normal temperatures so far in January. Much of the region was also wetter than normal, as we would expect during an El Nino winter, but some areas of the coastal plains in Georgia and the Carolinas were drier than normal since they were largely missed by the last rain event. But with more rain on the way over the next couple of days, some of that dryness could disappear.
