The low pressure area that is developing in Texas has a big rain shield ahead of it. That should move into the Southeast later this weekend, bringing rain to a lot of the region other than the Florida peninsula and the Southeast coast. That should help keep drought from expanding in next week’s Drought Monitor map. The heaviest rain will be in Alabama and northwestern Georgia as well as along the spine of the Appalachians. Week 2 also has a slight chance of wetter than normal conditions before drier conditions are expected to return in weeks 3 and 4 in mid-December.
