Here is a story you might not expect to read in this blog, but it was too good not to mention. Newser posted a story about the remarkable tale about three cows that were swept out to sea from North Carolina’s Cedar Island in the 2019 Hurricane Dorian and found, much to everyone’s surprise, weeks later at Cape Lookout National Seashore in the Outer Banks. Although the distance between the two points is about 4 miles, a USGS oceanographer estimates that the actual distance they swam was probably more like 28 to 40 miles before they landed due to the rough water and storm currents. These were feral cows, not domesticated ones, so they may have been better equipped to handle the adverse conditions than tame cows would have been.
