The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that drought expanded almost everywhere in the Southeast. The only state that did not see an increase was Alabama. In spite of the expansion, however, I think that it should have been expanded more than it did, with areas of Georgia showing signs of approaching D3 level. However, since I am not a DM author, it’s not up to me. We continue to communicate with the authors to make sure they are paying attention to the CMOR reports that you have been so faithfully sending in. Thanks for making your situation known by using these reports to show just how dry it is! The images of dry streams and ponds are heartbreaking, and I know that many farmers are desperate to get rain for their pastures and to plant small grains.

In Puerto Rico, all signs of dryness have been removed from the territory due to recent rain.
