The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that abnormally dry conditions have expanded in most of the region but especially the western part, including most of Alabama and Georgia and parts of the Carolinas and Florida. This is due to the completely lack of rainfall under continuing high pressure after the remains of Ian moved out of North Carolina and Virginia last week. The dry conditions were good for many who were doing harvesting, although it was not good for peanuts or for the planting of small grains and pastures. Since it has been raining across the region since the cutoff of the last map, we can expect to see conditions stay the same or even improve in some places.
