The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that dry conditions and/or drought expanded in all states in the region, and the area of severe (D2) drought expanded quite a bit, with several new locations identified. The heaviest rainfall in the next week will be over the weekend and mostly centered in Alabama, so the western portion of the region should see some relief on next week’s map, but other areas are likely to see only light rainfall, which could mean further expansion in the next map. An area of abnormally dry (D0) conditions was also reintroduced to NE Puerto Rico this week.
