The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows generally small changes in drought and dry conditions across the region. The tiny area of D2 severe drought in far NW Alabama is now gone, and the area covered by abnormally dry conditions has also decreased. In Florida, the area of drought decreased but the coverage of abnormally dry conditions expanded. Drought slightly increased in South and North Carolina, and in Virginia, the Virginia portion of the Delmarva peninsula also developed moderate (D1) drought. There were no change in Puerto Rico this week. There should be further improvements in most parts of the Southeast except for eastern NC and VA, which will be mostly dry this week.
