NOAA: U.S. sweltered through third-hottest summer on record

The latest monthly and seasonal summary for the United States came out late last week. It shows that for the continental US as a whole, it was the third warmest summer on record since 1891, when records began. August was the 8th warmest on record, and nearly the entire country was above normal, especially the overnight lows.
