With the rain that much of the region experienced this past week, most drought has been erased from the latest Drought Monitor map, released today. There are still only a few small patches in Alabama, South Carolina, and Florida, and those are likely to be gone soon. A few remnant areas of abnormally dry (D0) conditions still linger, but those could also be gone as the rains continue. In fact, Georgia is now entirely free of even the D0 conditions. Drought has also decreased in Puerto Rico due to recent rains there. With more rain in the forecast for the next week, I don’t expect to see any expansion of drought but it is likely we will see a continued reduction in most dry areas.
