The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that there were big increases in abnormally dry (D0) conditions in Alabama and Georgia. Florida and Georgia saw increases in severe (D2) drought, which continued in the Carolinas as well. Virginia was the only state that saw a decrease in dry conditions this week. Puerto Rico also had an increase in abnormally dry conditions this week. Fortunately, it looks like much of the area could see an inch or more of rain in the next week, which should keep the drought from expanding further. Temperatures are expected to be above normal for most of the next few weeks, which will add to moisture stress.
