I am a chapter author for the Southeast chapter of the upcoming 5th National Climate Assessment. We are now taking public comments on the chapter outlines. I encourage you to view the outlines for the Southeast chapter as well as the Agriculture chapter and any others that may be related to your work and submit comments as appropriate. Each chapter is also holding public webinars to capture additional input. I have posted this information previously for the Southeast, but the full schedule of workshops is available using the link below. We want to hear from you!

The U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) is pleased to share two announcements related to the development of the Fifth National Climate Assessment.

First, the call for public comment on the report’s annotated outlines is now open. These outlines can be accessed through USGCRP’s Review and Comment System. In particular, we are seeking feedback on the scope and framing of each chapter’s proposed topics. Please see the Federal Register Notice for additional information. All comments must be submitted through USGCRP’s Review and Comment System by 11:59 PM ET on February 20, 2022.

Second, author teams are hosting a series of public engagement workshops that begin next week and run through mid-February. These workshops will help authors gather feedback on climate change-related issues that are important to the public and shape the further development of their chapters. The full schedule of workshops is listed on USGCRP’s website, along with registration links.

As you’ll recall from your experience with the National Climate Assessment, the information received through these public engagement opportunities is very important to the writing process, and we hope you will consider participating in one or both of these opportunities.  In addition, we encourage you to share this announcement with your networks.
