The latest Drought Monitor, released today, shows that the abnormally dry conditions that were present in southern parts of the region were removed from Florida and reduced in Georgia following rain the past week. However, in South and North Carolina and Virginia, there was an expansion of moderate drought conditions as they were largely missed by the rain in the last week under the influence of high pressure. Some rain in the next day may help to keep those conditions from getting worse in the short-term but after the front comes through, high pressure is expected to return, bringing more dry conditions to the region.
