The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, show that an area of abnormally dry (D0) conditions was introduced to eastern Georgia this week. Similar conditions also expanded in South Carolina and remained in Virginia and North Carolina essentially unchanged from last week. In Puerto Rico, the area of moderate drought (D1) contracted substantially due to recent rains. The newly designated dry areas are not likely to be improved in the next week since rainfall there is expected to be relatively light, although other areas of the Southeast, especially Alabama, will see quite a bit more rain.
