The latest monthly and seasonal outlooks were released by NOAA today. The new cleaner maps look great! The outlook for October shows that the northeastern half of the region is leaning towards warmer than normal conditions, while Alabama, Florida, and western Georgia have equal chances of near, above, or below normal temperatures. A lot of the region is continuing to lean towards wetter than normal conditions in October, probably in large part due to the active tropical season we are experiencing. For October through December, we see a typical La Nina pattern emerging. Warmer than normal temperatures are expected through the entire region in the last quarter of 2021, while drier than normal conditions are slightly more likely in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. La Nina is expected to make its official appearance in the next month or two, but there are already plenty of signs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean that it is on the way and should last for most of the winter.
