The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows, that most areas of abnormally dry (D0) conditions remain the same, but that a small area of moderate (D1) drought was added to central Virginia this week. There were no changes to the Puerto Rico map, either. With relatively light amounts of rain expected in the next week, I don’t expect to see any big changes on next week’s map except for in southern Florida, which will receive quite a bit of rain that may eliminate the small area of abnormally dry conditions there.

By the way, if you wonder why the DM maps stop at the border with Canada and Mexico and want to know what is going on at your fishing cabin in the Yukon or your beach cabana in Cabo, you can see maps for North America at https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/temp-and-precip/drought/nadm/maps.
