Tropical Storm Bill developed quickly off the coast of North Carolina today and is expected to move off towards the northeast before it becomes extratropical and dissipates in about 48 hours. There is no threat to the US other than some high waves near the coast. Two other areas of concern have been identified by the National Hurricane Center. One is related to a wave moving west off of Africa. It has a 20 percent chance of developing into a named storm in the next 5 days but is not expected to last as it moves into a hostile environment. Of more concern is Investigation 92L in the Bay of Campeche, which has a 70% chance of developing into a named storm in the next five days. There is a lot of uncertainty with where this storm will go, but the models today suggest it may barely get to tropical storm level and that it may make landfall in either Texas or Louisiana. The most likely impact will be some heavy rain in areas near and to the east of the center, wherever that might be. Just something to watch at this point in the Southeast.
