For those of you who are looking towards June 1 as the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, you might be interested in this refresher on hurricane climatology in the region from Alicia Wasula of Shade Tree Meteorology here. Next week is the NWS Atlanta Hurricane Preparedness Week, and they will be posting information about hurricane preparedness, watches, warnings, and other information on their social media pages all week. Not too early to get prepared! You can have tropical storms flare up in the Atlantic in May, although they don’t happen every year. Today the first disturbance of the year was identified in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, so the Atlantic is not likely to be far behind.
