Farmers have always been strong defenders of their land, and are always searching for new ways to earn income to support their farms and their families. Now there are new ways to farm in ways that improve their soil and cut the use of chemicals and water and also help improve the earth’s climate by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and conserving water resources. The Conversation has an interesting story about some of the programs that Iowa farmers are using to farm in ways that are climate-smart and that also save money or bring in new income. While some of the initiatives are geared specifically to the Iowa prairies, other programs are also applicable to the Southeast. Over time, I expect to see more of these programs made available to our agricultural producers.
