The University of Georgia CAES News Team posted a story this week on some recent research showing that cows that are kept free of heat stress produce more milk and enjoy a better quality of life. Cows can be kept more comfortable by a combination of misters and fans, which keep the heat stress low by reducing the cow’s body temperature when the outside air is hot and humid. Nutrition can also be a factor in reducing the heat stress. This has applicability in areas beyond the Southeast, since other parts of the country also experience heat stress and need to know how to manage their herds to minimize it. You can read more about how they did their study here.
