The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that an area of moderate (D1) drought has been added to the western end of the Florida Panhandle, stretching into Alabama. Other areas of moderate drought in Alabama have also expanded slightly and new areas of abnormally dry (D0) conditions have been added there. In the rest of the region, areas of abnormally dry conditions in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina have decreased. Moderate drought in Puerto Rico along the northern coast increased slightly. With very wet conditions expected over most of the region in the next week, further expansion of drought is unlikely on next week’s map except possibly in southern Florida, which should be mostly dry.
