As we continue to see earth’s temperature increase, farmers are considering how to adapt to different growing conditions. Areas that are most favorable for some crops like corn and wheat are moving north, which gives northern farmers more options for crops and southern farmers the opportunity to try new crops or new varieties that are better suited to their current climate. One of the countries that is most likely to benefit from this northward migration of agriculture is Russia. As the country gets warmer and has a longer growing season, it may have the ability to become even more of an agricultural powerhouse with new areas opening up to farming. Pro Publica published an interesting long report on how both warming climate and migration from other areas are increasing Russia’s ability to produce crops.
