The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that the small pockets of drought in Alabama and Georgia have shrunk but that a new area of moderate drought has been introduced to western Florida near Tampa. Heavy rains expected later this week may eliminate that in the next couple of weeks, especially as at least one tropical system is likely to drop rain across the Florida panhandle in the next ten days. Abnormally dry conditions in Alabama and Georgia were also reduced. Puerto Rico’s status did not change with just minor patches of abnormally dry conditions. Those may also disappear if TD13 passes close enough to provide tropical showers.
