As sea levels continue to rise with warmer oceans and melting ice sheets, we are likely to see big changes along the coastal areas. One thing that is likely to happen is a reduction in coastal mangrove swamps, which currently help protect coastal areas in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas. Some of those may migrate north into the Georgia marshes, but many may just vanish, making coasts more vulnerable to storm surges and high tides. Yale Climate Connections describes what changes are likely to appear. You can read more at https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2020/06/sea-level-rise-likely-to-swallow-many-coastal-mangrove-forests/. Another impact of those rising seas is that communities will need to move inland, and services will also need to move. That is discussed in a separate Yale Climate Connections radio story here.
