Here is an interesting story I read in Modern Farmer this morning. You may have heard that dogs’ keen sense of smell has been used to find truffles underground or even identify potential cancer in humans, but in this story, research has shown that dogs may also be able to identify citrus trees that are infected by huanglongbing, which is also known as citrus greening. The study showed the dogs were reliably able to identify infected trees 99% of the time, and were able to do it long before symptoms appeared. Perhaps in the future these dogs will be citrus farmers’ best friends! You can read more here.
