The latest Drought Monitor, released yesterday, shows that while recent rains have reduced the area of abnormally dry conditions in North Carolina and Florida, there has been a slight expansion of moderate drought from Florida into far southern Georgia as they received little rain in the last week. We will have to wait until next week’s map to see if the rain from the system that just passed was sufficient to beat that back. While the heavy rains are expected to continue in northern parts of the region, Florida and adjoining areas of southern Georgia are expected to be largely missed by those rains and abnormally dry conditions could expand in those areas next week.
